Remove Annotations

The Remove Annotations tool removes annotations from the document without redacting the underlying content. Use this to clean up markup annotations that are no longer needed, or to strip all annotations from a document before distribution.

Extensions > Mapsoft Redactor > Remove Annotations

Using Remove Annotations

  1. Open a PDF document in Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Choose Extensions > Mapsoft Redactor > Remove Annotations.
  3. Select the scope: remove All annotations or Redacting Only annotations.
  4. Configure which annotation types to keep (multimedia, forms, text).
  5. Optionally enable Remove Attachments to also remove embedded file attachments.
  6. Select the page range.
  7. Click OK to remove the annotations.

Scope Options

OptionDescription
All AnnotationsRemoves every annotation on the selected pages, subject to the "keep" filters below.
Redacting OnlyRemoves only redacting annotations (those placed by Mapsoft Redactor's markup tools). Other annotation types such as comments, highlights, and stamps are left in place.

Keep Filters

When removing all annotations, you can preserve specific annotation types:

FilterDescription
Keep MultimediaPreserve multimedia annotations such as embedded audio and video clips.
Keep FormsPreserve interactive form field widgets (text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns, etc.).
Keep TextPreserve text annotations (sticky notes and free text).

Tip

Use the "Redacting Only" scope to quickly clear all redaction markup after reviewing the document, without affecting other comments or annotations.

Remove Attachments

The Remove Attachments option removes all embedded file attachments from the document. This is separate from annotation removal and affects document-level file attachments as well as file attachment annotations.

Warning

Removing annotations does not redact the content beneath them. If you want to permanently remove content, use Redact Marked Content instead.

Page Range

OptionDescription
