Overview
Copy External Bookmarks transfers bookmarks from a source PDF into a target PDF. You can choose whether to preserve the original bookmark actions or remap them to the target document, and control where the copied bookmarks are inserted in the target’s bookmark tree.
How to use
- Open the target PDF (or have it ready to select).
- Go to Plug-Ins > Bookmarks > Copy External Bookmarks.
- Click Browse next to the source file field and select the PDF containing the bookmarks you want to copy.
- Choose whether the target is the current active file or an external file.
- Select an action handling mode and an insertion location.
- Click Copy to transfer the bookmarks.
Target selection
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Current active file | Uses the PDF currently open in Acrobat as the target for copied bookmarks. This is the default. |
| External file | Lets you browse for a different PDF to use as the target. The target file path and browse button are enabled only when this option is selected. |
Action handling
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Preserve actions | Keeps the original bookmark actions (destinations, external links) unchanged. Selecting this option automatically unchecks Remap actions. |
| Remap actions | Attempts to map bookmark actions to equivalent locations in the target file. This is the default. Selecting this option automatically unchecks Preserve actions. At least one of the two options must be selected. |
Insert location
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Start | Places the copied bookmarks before the existing bookmarks in the target. This is the default. |
| End | Appends the copied bookmarks after the existing bookmarks. |
| Remove Existing Bookmarks | Removes all existing bookmarks in the target before inserting the copied ones. |
Note
Both source and target file paths are validated before copying begins. You will be prompted if either path is missing.
