Document Statistics

Overview

Document Statistics displays a summary of information about the current PDF document, including page count, word count, character count, file size, and other metadata. You can copy the statistics to the clipboard or scan an entire folder of PDF files for a combined word count.

How to use

  1. Open a PDF document in Acrobat.
  2. Go to Plug-Ins > Pages > Document Statistics.
  3. The dialog displays statistics for the current document automatically.
  4. Click Copy to Clipboard to copy the statistics as text.
  5. Optionally, use Multi-document word count to scan a folder of PDFs and calculate the combined word count.

Statistics displayed

StatisticDescription
Page count The total number of pages in the document.
Word count The total number of words extracted from all pages.
Character count The total number of characters (including spaces) across all pages.
File size The size of the PDF file on disk.
Title / Author / Subject Document metadata fields from the PDF properties.
Creator / Producer The application that created the PDF and the PDF producer software.

Multi-document word count

Click the Multi-document word count button to select a folder containing PDF files. The plug-in scans every PDF in the folder, counts the words in each, and displays a summary with the total combined word count. This is useful for estimating translation costs or evaluating the scope of a document set.

Tip

Use Copy to Clipboard to paste document statistics directly into a spreadsheet or project report.

Note

Word counts are derived from extracting the text content of each page. Scanned documents without OCR text layers will report zero words.
