Export Text

The Export Text tool extracts all text content from a PDF document and saves it to an external file. This is useful for reviewing document text before or after redaction, creating text-only copies for analysis, or verifying that redacted content has been fully removed.

Extensions > Mapsoft Redactor > Export Text

Exporting Text

  1. Open a PDF document in Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Choose Extensions > Mapsoft Redactor > Export Text.
  3. Select a page range (all pages or a specific range).
  4. Choose a save location and file name for the output text file.
  5. The plug-in extracts text from each page and writes it to the file.

Output Format

The exported text file contains the extracted text with the following formatting:

Tip

Export the document text both before and after redaction to create a comparison record. This helps verify that all intended content was successfully removed and no sensitive text remains.

Use Cases

Note

Text export extracts only the text layer of the PDF. Images, vector graphics, and non-text content are not included. If the PDF contains scanned images without OCR, the export may yield little or no text.
