Find and Delete Duplicate Pages

Overview

Find and Delete Duplicate Pages scans the open document for pages with identical content and removes the copies, keeping the first occurrence of each page. This is useful for cleaning up documents assembled from overlapping sources, or scanned sets where sheets were fed twice.

How to use

  1. Open the document you want to clean up.
  2. Go to Extensions > Mapsoft > Find and Delete Duplicate Pages.
  3. Choose a comparison method (see below).
  4. Click OK. The command lists exactly which pages it found and asks for confirmation before deleting anything.

Comparison methods

MethodDescription
Similar layout (default) An exact match on the page itself: page size and rotation, the page's content, every image it uses, and its extracted text must all be identical. It catches identical scanned or image-only pages as well as text pages. Pages are not rendered, so pages that merely look alike (the same content drawn in a different way) are not detected.
Textual comparison Two pages are duplicates when their extracted text is identical and, if they contain images, their images are identical too — two pages with the same caption but different photographs are not duplicates. Differences in layout, fonts or graphics are ignored. Pages with no text and no images are never matched.

Warning

Deletion cannot be undone from within the dialog. The confirmation prompt lists the exact page numbers that will be removed — check it before proceeding, and keep a copy of the original document for anything irreplaceable.

Note

The first occurrence of each duplicated page is always kept. If every page in the document would be deleted, the command refuses to run.

A document that does not allow changes is reported before the pages are compared (Acrobat asks for the permissions password if it has one). A progress window shows the page being compared; Cancel stops without deleting anything.
