Overview
Bookmark by Example is the fastest way into font-based bookmarking: select one heading on a page, run the command, and the Bookmark from Styles dialog opens with that heading's font name and size already filled in as the level 1 rule. Adjust if you like, add more levels for sub-headings, then generate.
How to use
- With the PDF open, use Acrobat's text selection tool to select an example heading.
- Go to Plug-Ins > Bookmarks > Bookmark by Example.
- The Bookmark from Styles dialog opens with the sampled font and size as the first level's rule. Review the page range and options.
- Click Apply to generate the bookmark tree.
Tip
Sample the largest heading first — it becomes level 1. Then add further levels in the dialog for section and sub-section styles.
Notes
- The sample uses the first text run of the selection; selecting text in a single style gives the most predictable result.
- Subset font prefixes (such as
ABCDEF+Times) are stripped automatically, so the rule matches the font as it appears on other pages. - If nothing is selected, or the selection has no readable font (a scanned image, say), the command explains what to do instead of opening the dialog.
