Overview
Convert Bookmark Tree to Single Level flattens the bookmark hierarchy by moving all bookmarks below a chosen target level up to that level. The tree structure above the target level is preserved, while everything deeper is collapsed into the target level as a flat list.
How to use
- Open a PDF that contains bookmarks.
- Go to Plug-Ins > Bookmarks > Manage & Organize > Convert Bookmark Tree to Single Level.
- Use the spin control to select the target level (minimum 1, maximum is the deepest level in the current document).
- Click OK to flatten all bookmarks below the target level.
Target level examples
| Target level | Result |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Every bookmark in the document becomes a top-level bookmark. All hierarchy is removed. |
| Level 2 | The first two levels of the tree are preserved. Bookmarks at level 3 and deeper are moved up to become level-2 entries under their nearest level-1 ancestor. |
| Level N | Levels 1 through N are kept intact. Everything below N is flattened into level N. |
Warning
Flattening is applied immediately and cannot be undone. Save a backup copy of your PDF before using this feature.
Tip
If you need to merge specific levels rather than flatten everything below a threshold, use Merge Bookmark Levels instead.
Note
If the bookmark tree is already at or shallower than the selected target level, no changes are made. The order of bookmarks within each section is preserved.
