Remove All Bookmarks

Overview

Delete Bookmarks removes bookmarks from the active PDF. You can delete the entire bookmark tree, bookmarks at a single level, or a range of levels. Optionally, you can also delete the PDF pages that the removed bookmarks point to.

How to use

  1. Open a PDF that contains bookmarks.
  2. Go to Plug-Ins > Bookmarks > Manage & Organize > Remove all bookmarks.
  3. Select the level scope: All levels, a single level, or a level range.
  4. Optionally enable page deletion options.
  5. Click OK to delete the selected bookmarks.

Level scope

OptionDescription
All levels Removes the entire bookmark tree from the document.
Level Removes only bookmarks at the specified single level number.
Level range Removes bookmarks within the specified start and end levels (inclusive). The start level cannot be greater than the end level.

Page deletion options

OptionDescription
Delete pages linked to bookmarks When enabled, the pages targeted by the deleted bookmarks are also removed from the PDF. Bookmarks without valid page destinations are ignored for page deletion but are still removed from the outline.
Delete until next bookmarked page When enabled (requires page deletion to be ticked), each deleted bookmark's page range extends from its destination page through to the page before the next bookmarked page. This is useful for removing entire sections of a document.

Warning

Deleting bookmarks and pages is permanent and cannot be undone from this dialog. Always save a backup copy of your PDF before using this feature, especially when page deletion is enabled.

Tip

To remove only top-level entries while preserving child bookmarks, delete just level 1. The child bookmarks will be promoted to fill the gap.
