Overview
Remove Page Backgrounds strips out the backgrounds that Add Page Backgrounds applied, across the whole document, and takes the artwork and the transparency setting with them.
Each background this plug-in applies is written as its own small, tagged content stream, separate from the page’s own content. That tag is what makes removal possible and safe: nothing the page already had is read, rewritten or re-encoded.
How to use
- Open the document in Acrobat.
- Go to Plug-Ins > Pages > Remove Page Backgrounds.
- Confirm the prompt, which states how many pages carry a background.
There are no options. The command works on the whole document; if nothing is found it says so and leaves the document untouched.

Tip
Use this to iterate: apply a letterhead, look at the result at full size, remove it and apply it again with a different opacity or offset. Repeating Add Page Backgrounds without removing first stacks a second copy on top of the first.
