TOCBuilder v2 vs EverMap AutoBookmark

Both are Adobe Acrobat plug-ins for bookmarks, links and tables of contents. The practical difference is how much of the job each one covers before you need to buy a second product — matching v2’s range costs $567 across three EverMap licenses.

The short version

EverMap sells a well-regarded, focused catalog: AutoBookmark for bookmarks, links and TOC; AutoSplit for splitting, merging and renaming; AutoPageX for page editing. Each is bought separately.

TOCBuilder v2 takes a different approach: one plug-in, one license, covering all three areas. We documented 138 features for v2 and mapped each onto the EverMap product you would need to buy to get the same capability:

Mapping is based on EverMap's own published product descriptions. Feature counts are documented help topics in the TOCBuilder v2 manual, not marketing bullet points.

What the same capability costs

To cover the three areas above with batch processing, EverMap's single-user list prices are:

EverMap productCoversSingle-user price
AutoBookmark ProfessionalBookmarks, links, destinations, TOC — with batch$269
AutoSplit ProSplit, merge, rename — with batch$149
AutoPagexPage editing, scaling, page statistics$149
TotalThree licenses, three installs$567

Worth knowing before you compare headline numbers: batch processing is a paid upgrade in both cases at EverMap. AutoBookmark Standard is $219 without batch; Professional at $269 adds it. AutoSplit is $99 without batch, $149 with. Mapsoft plug-ins include batch processing across folders as standard.

In EverMap's favor, their licenses include two years of maintenance against our one, and renewals are offered at a substantial discount off list for five years afterwards. If you plan to stay current, factor that in — it narrows the gap over a long ownership period.

Prices are EverMap's published single-user list prices, checked August 2026. Both companies publish multi-seat and site licensing; compare those directly if you are buying for a team.

Where TOCBuilder v2 is the better choice

  • Your work spans more than bookmarks. If you also split by bookmark, merge folders, renumber pages or fix margins, that is two or three EverMap products against one license here.
  • Visual Page Index. v2 generates index pages of hyperlinked page thumbnails — a visual contents page for scanned sets, presentation decks and image-heavy documents where a text TOC does not help. We know of no EverMap equivalent.
  • Regex without the regex. Much of v2 is pattern-driven, and its AI Assistant will write the expression from a plain-English description. Regular expressions are the steepest part of this category's learning curve; this removes it.
  • You already own Bookmarker or TOCBuilder. v2 combines both and existing customers upgrade free.

Where AutoBookmark is the better choice

We would rather you bought the right tool than our tool. EverMap has been building Acrobat plug-ins since 1998 and there are jobs they do better:

  • Litigation support and PDF Portfolios. AutoPortfolio handles email-to-PDF conversion, portfolio extraction and deduplication. We have no equivalent product.
  • Deep redaction. AutoRedact is a mature, dedicated redaction tool. v2 masks content, but redaction is not what it is for.
  • Large multi-seat deployments. EverMap publishes established multi-user licensing for sizeable teams.
  • A longer track record. They have been doing this for more than 25 years, and in a category built on trust that counts for something.

Try both

Both companies offer functional trials, and this is a category where the only comparison that matters is against your own documents. Install both, run them over a real folder of your files, and see which one finishes the job.

Buy TOCBuilder or Bookmarker now and you are upgraded to v2 free of charge when it ships.
