Using Acrobat 2023 or newer? The Plug-Ins menu moved.

Adobe redesigned the Acrobat interface in late 2023 and the classic menu bar is no longer visible by default. After you install this plug-in, you’ll find its commands under the new Menu icon (top-left of the Acrobat window) → Plug-Ins.

Before You Install

Acrobat Pro or Standard

PDF Compositor is a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat Pro or Standard on Windows. It does not work with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Both 64-bit and 32-bit Acrobat installations are supported.

Protected Mode stays on

PDF Compositor runs with Acrobat’s Protected Mode switched on, so there is nothing to disable. Adobe removes the option to turn it off in December 2026 — what that means for plug-ins.

Close Acrobat first

The plug-in loads when Acrobat starts, so quit Acrobat before running the installer. If Acrobat is open during installation you will not see the new menu until you restart it.

Free 30-day trial

The beta includes a free 30-day trial, with no licence key to enter to get started. After the trial, a TOCBuilder or Bookmarker licence upgrades to PDF Compositor free if you help with the beta or bought in the last six months: get your PDF Compositor serial on the upgrade page.

Getting Started

  1. Quit Adobe Acrobat if it is running.
  2. Run the installer you downloaded above. You can install it over an existing TOCBuilder or Bookmarker installation.
  3. Start Acrobat again. The plug-in is loaded at start-up, so it will not appear until you do.
  4. Open the Plug-Ins menu. On Acrobat 2023 and newer the classic menu bar is hidden — use the Menu icon at the top-left, then Plug-Ins. PDF Compositor’s commands are grouped there by area — TOC, Bookmarks, Links, Pages, Split, Utilities and so on. See the 60-second guide with screenshots if you cannot find it.
  5. Pick a tool from one of those menus, or use a keyboard shortcut — every shortcut uses Ctrl+Shift with a key Acrobat leaves free, so Ctrl+Shift+1 opens TOC Builder.

Settings live under Plug-Ins → Mapsoft Preferences. They are stored per Windows user, so you do not need administrator rights to change them.
