User Guide — Mapsoft DogEars Plugin for Adobe Acrobat

Overview

DogEars is an Adobe Acrobat plug-in that lets you mark PDF pages with a visual “dog ear” fold in the page corner. Marked pages can then be quickly navigated, extracted into a new document, or cleared in bulk. It provides a simple, visual way to flag pages of interest while reviewing a PDF.

Dog ear annotations are stored directly in the PDF file, so they persist when the document is saved and shared with other DogEars users.

Getting Started

After installation, DogEars adds two toolbar buttons and a menu item under Extensions › Mapsoft › DogEars in Adobe Acrobat.

  1. Open a PDF document in Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Click the Toggle DogEar toolbar button to mark the current page.
  3. A small triangular fold appears in the page corner, indicating the page is marked.
  4. Use the Next DogEar toolbar button to jump between marked pages.

Toggling Dog Ears

Click the Toggle DogEar toolbar button to add or remove a dog ear on the currently viewed page. If the page already has a dog ear, clicking the button removes it; otherwise, a new dog ear annotation is added.

The dog ear appears as a small triangular fold in the page corner. Its position automatically adjusts to account for page rotation (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°).

Note: The document must allow editing for dog ears to be added. If the Toggle button is disabled, check that the PDF is not read-only or security-restricted.

The Next DogEar toolbar button jumps to the next marked page in the document. When you reach the last marked page, clicking again wraps around to the first marked page.

Hold Shift and click the same button to navigate backwards to the previous marked page. If you are on the first marked page, Shift+click wraps to the last marked page.

Extracting Pages

The Extract button in the DogEars Options dialog creates a new PDF document containing only the dog-eared pages from the current document. The pages are copied in their original order, and the dog ear annotations are automatically removed from the extracted pages.

This is useful for pulling out a subset of pages you have flagged during a review, without modifying the original document.

Removing Dog Ears

The Remove All button in the DogEars Options dialog removes every dog ear annotation from the current document. A confirmation prompt appears before the operation proceeds, since it cannot be undone.

Options Dialog

Open the DogEars Options dialog from Extensions › Mapsoft › DogEars. The dialog provides the following controls:
