Mapsoft TDMRep

TDMRep stands for Text and Data Mining Reservation Protocol. This free Adobe Acrobat plugin lets you control whether AI systems are allowed to mine your PDF content. It embeds a simple, machine-readable declaration using the W3C TDMRep standard that AI crawlers can read to know if they need your permission first.

Overview

Mapsoft TDMRep is a free Adobe Acrobat plugin that implements the W3C TDMRep (Text and Data Mining Reservation Protocol) specification for PDF documents. It allows publishers, rights holders, and content managers to embed machine-readable metadata that declares whether text and data mining is permitted on their PDF content.

As AI systems increasingly crawl and mine published content, TDMRep provides a standardised way to assert your rights. The plugin supports setting reservations on individual files, processing entire folders in batch, auditing existing metadata, and removing TDMRep properties when needed.

Key Features

Declare and manage TDM rights on your PDF documents.

Set TDM Reservation

Set tdm:reservation to 0 (mining permitted) or 1 (rights reserved) on any PDF to declare your text and data mining policy.

Policy URL

Optionally point to a machine-readable ODRL licensing policy via tdm:policy, giving crawlers a URL to your detailed terms.

PDF/A Extension Schema

Include the TDMRep extension schema in XMP metadata so that TDMRep properties pass PDF/A validation without errors.

Batch Processing

Apply TDMRep metadata to hundreds of files at once with folder support, including optional recursion into subfolders.

Check Status

Audit files to see which already have TDMRep metadata without modifying them. Ideal for compliance checks across large collections.

Remove TDMRep

Strip all TDMRep metadata from files to permit unrestricted AI mining, reverting documents to an undeclared state.

Completely Free

No licence key required. Download and use TDMRep at no cost, with no limitations.

Use Cases

Control how AI systems interact with your published PDF content.

Rights Reservation

Signal to AI crawlers that content mining requires permission. Set tdm:reservation to 1 and optionally provide a policy URL so that automated systems know your content is rights-reserved.

Open Access Publishing

Set reservation to 0 to explicitly permit text and data mining, making it clear to AI systems and researchers that your content is freely available for mining.

Compliance Auditing

Use Check Status to audit which documents in a collection have TDMRep metadata, generating reports to verify that your publishing workflow is correctly tagging files.

PDF/A Compatibility

Include the TDMRep extension schema so that TDMRep properties pass PDF/A validation, ensuring your archival documents remain standards-compliant.
