Ready now. ThumbNails runs with Acrobat’s Protected Mode switched on, so you no longer need to disable it. The rest of the Mapsoft plug-ins follow over the coming weeks. Adobe removes the option to turn it off in December 2026 — what this means for your plug-ins.

Overview
ThumbNails is an Adobe Acrobat plug-in that saves the pages of a PDF as image files. Choose the resolution, the image format — JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP or DIB — a file-name prefix and the folder to save into, and optionally draw a coloured border around each image.
Save all pages, a page range, or just the odd or even pages, and store the settings as a named configuration to use again or to run from a batch sequence.
Key Features
Everything you need to turn PDF pages into images.
Six Image Formats
Save pages as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP or DIB (a BMP with the .dib extension, for software that expects it), whichever suits where the images are going.
Any Resolution
Set the resolution in dots per inch, from small web thumbnails to high-resolution images for print.
Page Ranges
Save every page, a range such as 1,3-5, the current page, or just the odd or even pages.
Borders
Draw a border around each image in the colour and line width you choose.
File Naming
Choose the folder to save into and a prefix for the file names. Each page is saved as the prefix plus a page number, so give each document its own prefix or folder: saving with a prefix already used there replaces the earlier images.
Saved Configurations
Save your settings under a name and reuse them, or run them from a batch sequence to process many files.
Use Cases
ThumbNails is ideal wherever a PDF page is needed as a picture.
Web & Catalogue Images

Document Previews
Create preview images of documents for intranets, document management systems and search results.
Presentations
Drop pages from reports and drawings into slides and documents that take images.
Records & Archiving
Keep image copies of key pages alongside the PDFs they came from.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I save PDF pages as images in Acrobat?
Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat, choose ThumbNails from the Mapsoft plug-ins menu, pick the image format, resolution and folder, and click OK. Each selected page is saved as a separate image.
Which image formats does ThumbNails support?
JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP and DIB, at any resolution you set in dots per inch.
How are the image files named?
Each image is named with your prefix followed by a six-digit page number: img000000.png for the first page, img000001.png for the second, and so on. The number counts from 0 and is hexadecimal, so the tenth page is img000009.png and the eleventh img00000a.png. Saving another document into the same folder with the same prefix replaces the images already there.
Is ThumbNails free?
Yes. ThumbNails is a free Adobe Acrobat plug-in for Windows. No licence or activation is required.
